Today, the median non-Hispanic White household holds almost $190,000 in wealth—7.8 times that of the median Black household ($24,100). While the drivers of the racial wealth gap are complex, disparities in access to homeownership, as well as in the financial benefits that homeownership confers, play a key role in shaping this inequality.
